    • Irish singer/songwriter Glen Hansard and his Once co-star Marketa Irglova served up the first big surprise at the 2008 Oscars by beating Alan Menken's three Enchanted nominations to claim the night's Best Song. The duo's Falling Slowly tune left Hansard stunned and fighting back tears as he struggled with his acceptance speech.
      The humbled star said, "We made this film two years ago, we shot it on two handy-cams, it took us three weeks to make, we made it for 100 grand and we never thought we'd come into a room like this and be in front of you people... This is amazing."

  •  05/10/2007 | Paradiso Filmed Entertainment scores with new talent
    • This year four debut films by talented, ‘new’ directors are competing for the European Discovery 2007 prize. They include two films that are distributed by Paradiso Filmed Entertainment: Control by Anton Corbijn and The Band’s Visit by Eran Kolirin.
      A jury of renowned film connoisseurs chose the nominated films from 63 entries. The jury consisted of Jacob Neijendam (Denmark), Marco Lombardi (Italy) and Dana Linssen (the Netherlands), all members of the International Federation of Film Critics (Fipresci). EFA (European Festivals Association) board members Pierre-Henri Deleau (France) and Stefan Laudyn (Poland) rounded out the jury.
      The 1800 members of the European Film Academy will choose the winner. The winner will be announced on Saturday, 1 December 2007 during the European Films Awards Ceremony in Berlin.

      The nominated films are:

      • THE BAND’S VISIT (BIKUR HA-TIZMORET) by Eran Kolirin (Israel);
      • COUNTERPARTS (GEGENÜBER) by Jan Bonny (Germany);
